Can you describe this?
I can see some buildings and some cars. The buildings are grey or green. One picture is dark and the other picture is light. I think it is in the evening. I like these pictures.

In these photographs there are some buildings and cars in a city. In the picture on the right, the sky is darker. In the picture on the left, the sky is lighter. The buildings are very tall. I think about my hometown when I see these pictures.

Can you describe this?
I think these photos were taken in a city because there are many tall buildings and also a lot of cars. Both photos look the same except that the photo on the left hand side is much lighter than the one on the right hand side.

I think these photos were taken in the evening because the car headlights are on and also  the street light is on. These photos remind me of my hometown because there are some buildings like this near my house.

These photos must have been taken in a city – because the skyscrapers in the background are so close together. It’s clear that the building in the middle is still being built, as there is a crane on top of it and also the windows in the upper part of the building have not been finished yet.

These pictures seem to be two versions of the same photo because in both photos the cars are in the same place and the man walking in front of them is also in exactly the same position. These pictures remind me of when I was in London, as I think this is where they were taken.

Level 5: Advanced Level   show picture

Can you describe this?
These photos must have been taken in an urban area – most likely a city – because the skyscrapers and the low level buildings next to them have all been built in such close proximity to each other, which would only happen in a city. Some of the  buildings are of an unusual design, judging by their shapes at the top, which look a bit like the wings of flying birds.

It’s hard to imagine why they were designed in such a way, but it’s bound to be the case that the penthouse flats (if indeed they are apartment blocks) – or in any case the rooms at the highest points in the buildings have spectacular views and that the strange shaped roofs somehow  enhance the experience of being in those rooms.

These pictures are more similar than they are different. I would guess that they are simply two versions of the same photo which has been altered using photo-editing software, because although the light and colours look different, the actual photos are otherwise the same in every respect.
